Review by Rahul Alvares Low Carb Success (LCS) is a specialized diet book. It has zero information on exercising. And since it focuses only on the 'low carb' approach to dieting, it is very limited in its approach. The book starts giving a very broad overview of the popular low carbohydrate diet plans. The most popular of them all being of course the Atkins Diet. This was quite interesting as the Atkins Diet has been discussed in detail and the different phases viz. induction, on-going weight loss, etc. have all been explained. Next comes the South Beach Diet. And what follows after, is something like, a review of every single low carb diet ever written or tried on this planet! I know the world of bodybuilding and exercise is vast and infinite. But I never for once imagined how equally mind-boggling the number of low-carb diets would figure. LCS lists so many different types of diets with bizzare names I've never come across before; consider the Harvey Banting Diet, the Inuit Style Meat only Diet, Fat Flush Diet, and Schwarzbein Diet! But besides the Atkins Diet and the South Beach Diet, I didn't read much of the notes on the other diets at all. In fact I found most of the other diets rather strange. Most of them were very similar to each other differing only in a few, what I though were, very silly variations. Take for example the Stylonpecker Diet which says that you should eat frogs and salamanders, but stay the hell away from carrots and beetroots. Ok...
so I make up the stuff about the Stylonpecker, and the frogs and salamanders
- but the stuff about the carrots and beets is true! One of the diets
actually makes a list of the foods you are allowed to eat, in which
it clearly states that you should not eat carrots and beets. There are
a lot of other such variations and restrictions for different diets
- such as eating proteins and fats separately, drinking half a cup of
sugarless coffee in between meals, eating fruits only in the evening
and never in the morning, etc. Besides the review on the different types of low carb diets, the book also covers the following topics 1 Information
on 'what to do' if you plan to go at low carb dieting alone. I am again reminding you, LCS contains no information on training or exercises, and contains very little information on healthy nutrition - besides the low carb approach of course.
